An
“angel”
from heaven showed John the apostle many things which will occur in
the tribulation time on the earth, and John wrote about commercial
Babylon's destruction and the people who were affected by it. John
wrote about great worship which occurred in heaven afterward and then
shared,
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat
upon him was
called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he does judge and make
war. His eyes were
as a flame of fire, and on his head were
many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he
himself. And he was
clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The
Word of God. And the armies which
were
in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen,
white and clean. And out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with
it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of
iron: and he treads the wine-press of the fierceness and wrath of
Almighty God. And he has on his
vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF
LORDS.” John
continued,
“And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud
voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come
and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; That
you may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the
flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on
them, and the flesh of all men,
both
free and bond, both small and great. And I saw the beast, and the
kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war
against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the
beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles
before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of
the beast, and them that worshiped his image. These both were cast
alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant
were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword
proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their
flesh”,
and in Revelation chapter twenty and verse one John sees “an
angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and
a great chain in his hand ”
where
we read:
And
I saw an angel come down from heaven,
having
the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
The
verse reads, “And
I saw an angel come down from heaven, ...”
John began with the words, “and
I saw”
which means “and John perceived, noticed, discerned and discovered”
“an
angel”
or “a messenger, envoy and one sent” “come
down”
which means “descending” “from
heaven”
which refers to “separate and away from the region above the
sidereal heavens and the seat of order of things eternal and
consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”.
John watched as another “angel”
descended from the “heavenly realm”.
The
verse continues, “... having
the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.”
John added the words, “having
the key”
which means “holding, owning and possessing the key to open and
shut” “of
the bottomless pit” or
“belonging to the abyss, very deep chasm in the lowest parts of the
earth which has unbounded and unmeasurable depth”: “and
a great chain”
or “and a massive, large and grand fetter or manacle for bonding”
“in
his hand”
which refers to “in the angel's hand”. John saw how this “angel”
from heaven had both the “key”
to the “abyss” and a “binding chain” within “his
hand”.
When
we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we see the authority
given to this next “angel”
from heaven. This “angel”
is equipped with the tools necessary for his mission of binding the
most evil one of all, Satan. God has a plan that shall be fulfilled,
and the “angel”
and his equipment will be employed by God to capture Satan for a
time. God also has a plan of “salvation” through His Son Jesus
Christ by which every person may have a relationship with Him. God
desires to have intimate fellowship with people, and the only way to
truly avoid the ultimate exploit and desire of Satan is to submit
their lives unto Jesus. May all who read these words know the power
of Almighty God who shall give “the
key to the bottomless pit”
and a “great chain” to the “angel”
that shall bind him.
Next
time
John sees how the angel, “laid
hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan,
and bound him a thousand years”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
