An
“angel”
from heaven showed John the apostle many things which will occur in
the tribulation time on the earth, and John wrote about the wealth
and riches within the commercial center of Babylon that would exist
during that time. He watched as Babylon was destroyed, and he told
how the people who looked upon the city wailed,
“For in one hour so great riches is come to nothing. And every
ship-master, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many
as trade by sea, stood afar off. And they cast dust on their heads,
and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city,
wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her
costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate. Rejoice over her,
you
heaven, and you
holy apostles and prophets; for God has avenged you on her.
And
a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it
into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city
Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. And the
voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall
be heard no more at all in you; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft
he
be,
shall be found any more in you; and the sound of a millstone shall be
heard no more at all in you.
And
the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in you; and the
voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at
all in you: for your merchants were the great men of the earth; for
by your sorceries were all nations deceived. And in her was found the
blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the
earth.”
In chapter nineteen and verse one of Revelation John heard “a
great voice of much people”
praising God where
we read:
And
after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven,
saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power, unto
the Lord our God:
The
verse reads, “And
after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven,
saying, ...”
John began with the words, “and
after these things”
which are the Greek words “meta tauta”and refers to “behind or
hereafter the destruction of commercial Babylon” “I
heard”
or “John was given the faculty for hearing, perceiving, noticing,
discerning and discovering” “a
great voice”
which means “a huge, massive and exceeding tone or sound of uttered
words” “of
much people”
or “of a huge crowd or collection of people”
“in heaven”
which refers to “within the region above the sidereal heavens and
the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where
God dwells and other heavenly beings”, “saying”
or “uttering, proclaiming and declaring”. John “heard”
a loud sound of many people in “heaven”
declaring the next phrase.
The
verse continues, “Alleluia;
Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power, unto the Lord our God: ”
John added the word, “Alleluia”
which means “praise the Lord, Hallelujah”, “Salvation”
or
“deliverance from the molestation of enemies and the sum of
benefits and blessing which the Christians redeemed from all earthly
ills and will enjoy after the visible return of Christ from heaven in
the consummated and eternal kingdom of God”, “and
glory” or
“honor, splendor, brightness and praise”,
“and honor”
which means “value, deference and reverence”, “and
power”
or “strength, ability and influence”, “unto
the Lord”
which refers to “the One to whom a person or thing belongs, about
which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the
Messiah” “our
God”
which means “the people's Godhead bodily and trinity which is
comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”.
John heard
an “adoring exclamation” of praise unto God which declared his
“saving power”, praise, value, strength and might.
When
we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we can imagine this vast
group of people in heaven who are loudly honoring God for His
wonderful traits of “salvation, glory, honor and power”. God at
this time will have defeated both “spiritual and commercial
Babylon” upon the earth, and the people in heaven break out in
praise for His wonderful works among men. God Almighty shall rule and
reign, and all the false kingdoms of the world shall submit to Him
and His Son Jesus. This same God desires to have a relationship with
every person who will receive Jesus as their personal “Savior and
Lord”, and when the time comes for all of heaven to sing praises
unto Him, those who have accepted God's offer of “salvation”
shall join in as we give praise and honor to the God above all other
gods in the world.
Next
time
John hears this choir declare, “true
and righteous are
his judgments ”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
