After
showing John the apostle the “great
whore”
who was sitting upon a “scarlet
colored beast”
and was “arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold
and precious stones and pearls”, he “heard
another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that
you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her
plagues.”
In chapter eighteen and verse five of Revelation the voice declares,
“her
sins have reached unto heaven”
where
we read:
Reward
her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to
her works:
The
verse reads, “Reward
her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to
her works:”
John began with the words, “reward
her”
which means “discharge what is due, render, give back and restore
unto Babylon” “even
as”
or “like and in the same manner as” “she
rewarded you”
which means “Babylon has discharged what is due, rendered, given
back and restored to God”, “and
double”
or “twofold more”
“unto her double” which
means “toward Babylon twofold more” “according
to”
or “down from, throughout and along” “her
works”
which refers to “Babylon's business, employment and that which they
are occupied”. The “voice
from heaven”
desired for “Babylon”
to be “repaid” twice as much for their insubordinate ways.
The
verse continues, “in
the cup which she has filled fill to her double.”
John continued with the words, “in
the cup”
which refers to “within the drinking vessel, one's lot or
experience, prosperity or adversity” “which
she” or
“that Babylon”
“has
filled”
which means “has mixed, mingled and poured out for drinking”
“fill
her”
or “mix, mingle and pour out for drinking”
“to her double” which
means “to Babylon twofold”. John heard the “voice”
repeat the idea of Babylon being “repaid” twice for their wicked
deeds.
When
we consider John's words in this verse, we see how retribution to
“Babylon”
was on the mind of the “voice
from heaven”.
The cry was for them to be “repaid” for their wicked and boastful
works, and the law of reciprocity was to be “doubled”
on their behalf. God knows the works people have done, and His desire
is to “save” people through a relationship with His Son rather
than “condemn” them for what they do. If a person rejects Jesus
Christ as “Savior and Lord”, they shall be left to the judgment
of God, and only He can “save” them from “doubling”
the retribution they deserve.
Next
time
the “voice
from heaven”
declares,
“she
has glorified herself”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
