A Record upon My Soul 2 Corinthians 1:23

Paul the apostle told the church members in Corinth how God has, “sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts”, and in chapter one and verse twenty-three of Second Corinthians, Paul declared to the church members how God would call, “a record upon my soul”, where we read:

Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.

The verse begins, “Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, ...Paul began with the word, “moreover” which means “then also” “I call” or “Paul appealed and summoned” “God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “for a record” or “as a witness” “upon my soul” which refers to “Paul's the seat of feelings, desires, affections and aversions”. Paul called upon “God” to be a witness of his inward “desires and affections”.

The verse continues, ... that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth. Paul added the words, “that to spare you” which means “to abstain from, treat leniently and forbear the church members” “I came” which refers to “Paul did not come forth, show himself or find a place of influence” “not as yet” or “no longer, more or further” “unto Corinth” which means “satiated” which was the ancient and famous city of Greece, on the Isthmus of Corinth, and about forty miles west of Athens in which the church was located. Paul wanted God to be his “witness” of how he desired to come to Corinth, but not at that current time.

When we meditate upon these words from Paul, we see how he relied upon “God” to bear “record” of how he desired to go to the Corinthian church members, but not at that time. Paul desired to “spare” the church members a visit from him at that time as he would have set out to correct them in pointed manner. God has a plan and timing for everything He does, and when we follow His ways, He shall “bear record” of our desires with other as He did with Paul.

Next time Paul tells the Corinthians he doesn't have, “dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
