Sowing Not the Body that Shall Be 1 Corinthians 15:37

Paul the apostle told the church members in Corinth, “you fool, that which you sow is not quickened, except it die”, and in chapter fifteen and verse thirty-seven of First Corinthians, Paul told the church members in Corinth how, “you sow not that body that shall be”, where we read:

And that which you sow, you sow not that body that shall be,
but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:

The verse begins, And that which you sow, you sow not that body that shall be,...” Paul began with the word, “and that which you sow” or “and the seed that is scattered”, “you sow not” which means “the church members did not scatter” “that body” or “the living corpse” “that shall be” or “that will become, come into existence or happen”. Paul declared how the “seed” that the church members “sowed” was not like the “body” that shall come from that “seed”.

The verse continues, ...but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:” Paul added the word, “but” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written takes precedence over what was just stated “bare” which means “unclad, without clothing, naked and open” “grain” which means “a kernel of seed or corn”, “it may chance” or “whether it hit the mark, reached, attained, obtained and happened” “of wheat” which means “grain or corn”, “or of some other grain” which refers to “the rest of the grains”. Paul declared how the “seed” might produce “corn, wheat or some other type of grain”.

When we think through these words from Paul, we see how he employs the idea of “grain” seeds becoming much different plants than the original “seed sown”. The plant that comes from the “seed” produces more “seed” or “grain”, and in the same way the person who has faith and trust in Jesus Christ may experience “death” like a “seed” but are promised a new body that is much greater than the one “planted”. Let us always keep in mind the salvation of the Lord and the promise of a “resurrected” body that is so much greater than the one obtained now.

Next time Paul shares with the church members how, “God gives it a body as it has pleased him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
