Peter Goes to the House of Mary - Acts 12:12

The physician Luke wrote how Peter, “was kept in prison”, and after an angel led him out, “Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord has sent his angel, and has delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews”, and in chapter twelve and verse twelve of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter, “came to the house of Mary the mother of John” where we read:

And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John,

whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

The verse begins, “And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, ... Luke began with the words, “and when he had considered the thing” which means “and at the time and moment Peter understood, perceived and was conscience of God delivering him from prison by the angel”, “he came to the house of Mary” or “Peter arose and appeared at the dwelling place, abode or habitation belonging to Mary whose name means their rebellion” “the mother of John” which means “the immediate female ancestor and progenitor” belonging to “John” whose name means “Jehovah is a gracious giver”. Luke shared how “Peter” thought about God's “angel” releasing Him from “prison” and went to “Mary's house” who was John's mother.

The verse goes on to say, “... whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. Luke continued with the words, “whose surname was Mark” which means “whose invoked name was Mark which means a defense and was an evangelist and the author of the Gospel of Mark”; “where many were gathered together” or “in the location or place that a lot, numerous and an abundant about of people were assembled with one another” “praying” which means “making orations, supplicating and worshiping the Lord”. Luke shared how “Mary's” son “John” was known as “John Mark”, and a great number of people were assembled in her home.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how it took a little time for “Peter” to process what happened with him as he was released from prison, and afterward he decided to go to where he knew people in “Mary's home” who was the mother of “John Mark”. All these things were known by the Lord in advance, and step by step “Peter” was fulfilling the will of the Lord. God was expanding His church, and each of these events were instrumental in spreading the gospel. God wants every person to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and when they submit to Him, He will forgive their sins, grant them everlasting life and lead them step by step even though they are often unaware of everything He is doing in their lives.

Next time Luke shares about, “a damsel … named Rhoda”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
