Down to Troas - Acts 16:8

The beloved physician Luke wrote when Paul, Silas, Timothy and their companions, “had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, after they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not”, and in chapter sixteen and verse eight of the book of Acts Luke shared how Paul and Silas, “came down to Troas” where we read:

And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.

The verse begins, “And they passing by Mysia ... Luke began with the words, “and they passing by” which means “and Paul, Silas, Timothy and their companions journey and traveled past” “Mysia” whose name means “land of beach trees and was a province of Asia Minor on the shore of the Aegean Sea, between Lydia and Popontis; it included the cities of Pergamos, Troas and Assos”. Luke shared how Paul and his entourage traveled past “Mysia” and did the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... came down to Troas.” Luke continued with the words, “came down” or “descended” “to Troas” which means “to Troas whose name means a Trojan and was a city near Hellespont”. Luke shared how Paul and his companions descended to the “city” of “Troas”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Paul, Silas, Timothy and their traveling companions” passed by “Mysia” and descended to the city of “Troas”. God was expanding His church, and “Paul” and those traveling with him were being used by the Lord not only to increase the number of believers in His Son Jesus, but also to establish those who previously put their faith and trust in Him. God loves people, and He desires to have a personal relationship with every one of them through His Son Jesus. Anyone who yields themselves to Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Let all who read about the travels of “Paul” and the men with him understand, God was working His plan and purpose to reach every person reading these words, and those who are wise surrender to Him.

Next time Luke shares how, “a vision appeared to Paul in the night”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
