Timothy Well Reported - Acts 16:2

Luke the beloved physician shared how, “Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God. And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches. Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek”, and in chapter sixteen and verse two of the book of Acts Luke shared how Timothy, “was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium” where we read:

Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

The verse begins, “Which was well reported of by the brethren ... Luke began with the word, “which was well reported of” which means “who was witnessed, given honorable testimony and of good report” “by the brethren” or “among the fellow believers that were united to each other by the bond of affection”. Luke shared how “Timothy” had a “good reputation” among the fellow believers who were in the following areas.

The verse continues, “... that were at Lystra and Iconium.” Luke added the words, “that were at Lystra” or “who resided, lived and made their habitation in Lystra whose name means ransoming and was a city in the eastern part of the great plain of Lycaonia” “and Iconium” whose name means “little image” and was “a famous city of Asia Minor that was the capital of Lycaonia”. Luke shared how “Timothy's” reputation was “known and reported” by the fellow believers in the cities of “Lystra and Iconium”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Timothy” was not only known by the people in “Lystra and Iconium”, but also had a “good reputation” among them. God loves people, and when they submit themselves to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life. Thereafter they are to live with a “good report” or “integrity” among the people who are surround them. “Timothy” lived with a good reputation before “Paul and Silas” discovered him, and those who are wise will aspire to live in such a manner in the presence of Almighty God so they will have a “good report” among those with whom they live.

Next time Luke shares, “him would Paul have to go forth with him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
