A False Witness Shall Not Be Unpunished - Proverbs 19:5

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “wealth makes many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbor”, and in chapter nineteen and verse five of Proverbs Solomon said, “a false witness shall not be unpunished” where we read,

A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall not escape.

The verse begins, A false witness shall not be unpunished, ...” Solomon began with the words, “a false witness” or “a person who gives lying, deceptive, disappointing and fraudulent evidence and testimony” “shall not be unpunished” which means “will in no way exist as pure, innocent, desolate, empty, cleaned and purged”. Solomon shared how the person who gives fraudulent testimony will in no way escape purging and cleansing.

The verse continues, “... and he that speaks lies shall not escape.” Solomon added the words, “and he that speaks lies” or “and the person whether male or female who utters, declares and proclaims untruths, falsehoods and deceptive words” “shall not escape” which means “will in no way be delivered, slip away and saved”. Solomon said the person who utters falsehoods and untruths will in no way be delivered and saved.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people who give deceptive testimony will not be purged or cleared from their words, and should they proclaim untruths and deceptive words, they will not be delivered or saved from them. God wants us to be truthful and without lying, and because we have sin in our lives, we have a tendency to speak falsehoods and deceptive words. This is why Jesus came into the world to die on the cross, and because He gave His life for us, when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and cleanse us from all falsehood and deceptive words.

Next time Solomon says, “many will entreat the favor of the prince”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
