An Error Proceeding from the Ruler - Ecclesiastes 10:5

In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “If the spirit of the ruler rise up against you, leave not your place; for yielding pacifies great offenses”, and in chapter ten and verse five of his book Solomon shared about, “an error which proceeds from the ruler” where we read,

There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceeds from the ruler:

The verse reads, “There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, …” Solomon began with the words, “there is an evil” or “there exists a badness, disagreeableness, malignancy, unpleasantness and wickedness” “which I have seen” which means “that I, Solomon, have noticed, discerned, distinguished and observed” “under the sun” or “beneath the sun in the sky”. Solomon began to share another wickedness and unpleasantness that he observed beneath the sun.

The verse goes on to say, “… as an error which proceeds from the ruler:” Solomon continued with the words, “as an error” or “which is a sin, inadvertence and ignorance” “which proceeds from the ruler” which means “that goes forth, exits and separates apart from one who has mastery, dominance, governance and power”. Solomon said he observed that which was an ignorance going forth and separate from the one who has power and dominance.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Solomon noticed a wicked and ignorant wrong which was in the one who has mastery and dominance over people. We shall see what this “error” was in our next verse, but for now let us be aware that Solomon deeply considered the sin that was in other people. These revelations from Solomon are meant to warn us about avoiding these traits or they may reveal some of these sins within us. God will expose sin in our lives which leads to death, (See Romans 3:23; 6:23) and when we humble ourselves, turn from our sins and receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us in to all truth and cleanse us from all unrighteousness as He reveals the “error” and wrong found within us. (See 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4)

Next time Solomon says, “folly is set in great dignity”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
