Matthew the apostle shared how Jesus told His disciples, “fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father”, and in chapter ten and verse thirty of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “the very hairs of your head are all numbered” where we read:
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
The verse reads, “But the very hairs of your head ...” Matthew began with the word, “but” which means “moreover and” “the very hairs” or “even as, also and indeed the hairs ” “of your head” or “upon the disciples' head”. Matthew shared how Jesus referred to the “hairs” upon the heads of His disciples.
The verse goes on to say, “... are all numbered.” Matthew continued with the words, “are all” which means “are each, every, the whole and everyone of the hairs” “numbered” or “enumerated or counted”. Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples each and every one of the hairs on their heads were counted and known by God.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how intimately God is involved in our lives. He knows the number of hairs each person has, and although some have less than others, God knows the exact amount. God cares for and loves people, and He desires an intimate relationship with every one of them through His Son Jesus. This is why He sent Jesus to the earth to die for their sins. Sin separated people from God, and the penalty for sin is death. Jesus died upon the cross so the price for sin would be paid, and now all who “believe and trust” in Him may be saved. Almighty God who knows the number of the hairs upon people's heads offers them to know Him as their Heavenly Father, and those who are wise shall submit themselves to Him and yield to His Son Jesus today.
Next time Matthew shares how Jesus told His disciples, “you are of more value than many sparrows”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
