Matthew the apostle shared how, “the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter you not: But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely you have received, freely give. Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses. Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat. And into whatsoever city or town you shall enter, inquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till you go there”, and in chapter ten and verse twelve of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “when you come into a house, salute it” where we read:
And when you come into an house, salute it.
The verse reads, “And when you come into an house, ...” Matthew began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “you come” which refers to “the disciples enter and make entrance” “into a house” or “in an abode, dwelling place or habitation”. Matthew shared Jesus' instructions to His “apostles” for when they entered into someone's house who was “worthy” to have them stay.
The verse continues, “... salute it.” Matthew added the word, “salute” which means “greet, welcome, wish well to and receive joyfully” “it” or “the house”. Matthew shared how Jesus told His “apostles” to “wish well and receive joyfully” any home in which they were to stay.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how the disciples of Jesus were to “bless” the home where they were staying. God desires to “bless” every home that allows Him entrance, and when His “ministers” are accepted into the home, the people within the home are to be “blessed”. God desires an intimate relationship with every person who will come to Him through His Son Jesus, and when they allow Him entrance into their lives, He not only becomes their “Lord and Savior” but He is most ready to bless them with “well wishes and joyful reception”. Let all who read these words let Him in.
Next time Matthew shares how Jesus told His disciples to, “let your peace come upon” the “worthy house”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
