Matthew the apostle shared how Jesus told His disciples, “ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be you therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” Jesus continued, “But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues. And you shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what you shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what you shall speak. For it is not you that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaks in you. And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. And you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endures to the end shall be saved. But when they persecute you in this city, flee into another: for verily I say unto you, You shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-six of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed” where we read:
Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed;
and hid, that shall not be known.
The verse reads, “Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed;” Matthew began with the words, “fear them not therefore” which means “accordingly, consequently and these things being so, do not be afraid, put to flight or seized with alarm”: “for” or “because, since and on account that” “there is nothing” or “there exists not one thing” “covered” which means “hidden to hinder the knowledge of a thing”, “that shall not be revealed” or “that will not be disclosed, uncovered, made bare, manifest and laid open”. Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples not to worry or be overly concerned about the people who call them “Beelzebub” because there exist “nothing” that will not be “disclosed” and “uncovered”.
The verse continues, “and hid, that shall not be known.” Matthew added the words, “and hid” which means “kept secret, hidden and inward” “that shall not be known” or “that will be learned, understood, perceived and acquainted with”. Matthew shared how Jesus declared that nothing “hidden or kept secret” would be kept in that condition.
When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we discover how God knows and sees all, and there is nothing hidden from His eyes. Everything that seems “secret” is not really so, and God is able to “reveal” everything because of His omniscience. Jesus declared that He shall do so. With this in mind, everyone reading these words should desire to have a loving relationship with God through His Son Jesus. Those who refuse Him shall have no “covering” for their errors, mistakes, trespasses and sins.
Next time Matthew shares how Jesus told His disciples, “what I tell you in darkness, that speak in light”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
