The Dumb Spoke When the Devil was Cast Out Matthew 9:33

Matthew the apostle shared when Jesus raised the little girl back to life again, the fame hereof went abroad into all that land. And when Jesus departed there, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, You Son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus said unto them, Do you believe that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yes, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straightly charged them, saying, See that no man know it. But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country. As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.” In chapter nine and verse thirty-three of his book, Matthew shared, “when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake” where we read:

And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake:

and the multitudes marveled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

The verse reads, And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake:” Matthew began with the words, “and when” or “and at the time and moment” “the devil” which means “the demon, minister of the devil or the evil spirit” “was cast out” or “was sent and driven away and commanded to depart”, “the dumb” which refers to “the blunted and dull in hearing or lame in tongue” “spake” or “uttered articulate sounds, declared and talked”. Matthew shared how the “demon” within the “deaf and dumb” man was “commanded to depart” and the man “spoke”.

The verse goes on to say, and the multitudes marveled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.” Matthew continued with the words, “and the multitudes” or “and the crowds and numbers of people ” “marveled” which means “wondered in admiration”, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “it was never” which means “because and since nothing and neither at any time was anything” “so seen” or “brought forth light, caused to shine, was resplendent, become evident and appeared like this” “in Israel” which refers to “Israel which means He shall be a prince of God and refers to the family and descendants of the patriarch Jacob ”. Matthew shared how the people who crowded around Jesus “wondered in admiration” of Him and proclaimed how there never before was a time when something like this happened..

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see Jesus demonstrating His power over another “demon” as well as the physical malady the demon caused. God is “omnipotent” which means “all powerful”, and when He cast out a demon, however they have been affected may be healed. This same God desires to have a relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and every time we see another example of Jesus' power over physical and spiritual things, we should be inspired not only to “follow” Him, but also to “obey” His every command.

Next time Matthew shares how, “the Pharisees said, He cast out devils through the prince of the devil”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
