Two Blind Men Follow Jesus Matthew 9:27

Matthew the apostle shared how, there came a certain ruler, and worshiped” Jesus, “saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples. And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; your faith has made you whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise. He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleeping. And they laughed him to scorn. But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.” In chapter nine and verse twenty-seven of his book, Matthew shared how, “two blind men followed” Jesus where we read:

And when Jesus departed there, two blind men followed him,

crying, and saying, You Son of David, have mercy on us.

The verse reads, And when Jesus departed there, two blind men followed him ...” Matthew began with the words, “and when” or “at the time and moment” “Jesus” which refers to “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “departed there” or “was lead away, aside and brought forward from where He raised the maiden back to life”, “two blind men” which means “two male human beings who could not see or had opaque vision as if smokey” “followed him” or “joined with, sided with and accompanied Jesus”. Matthew shared how Jesus left the certain ruler's home where He raised his daughter back to life and “two men” who were “blind” followed after Him.

The verse goes on to say, “... crying, and saying, You Son of David, have mercy on us.” Matthew added the word, “crying” or “vociferating and speaking out loud”, “and saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “You Son of David” which refers to “you offspring, posterity and descendant of King David of Israel”, “have mercy” or “help, have compassion and show pity” “on us” which refers to “the blind men”. Matthew shared how these “two blind men” went after Jesus and were shouting for Him to have compassion and pity upon them.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we notice once again individuals who were in desperation for Jesus. They knew their need, and they believed Jesus could cure them. Jesus' reputation and fame was growing at this point, and when people find One who is able to solve their problems, especially physical ones, they become eager to have compassion shown upon them. God desires to have a relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and He knows the desperate human conditions that people face. He wants people to come after, believe in, rely upon and trust in Him so He might meet both their physical and spiritual needs. Those who are wise will understand that “blindness” comes both in “physical and spiritual” form, and Jesus is able to open the eyes of the blind.

Next time Matthew shares how, “the two blind came to” Jesus, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
