Matthew the apostle shared how Jesus was sharing concerning putting “new wine” in old “wineskins”, “behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshiped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.” In chapter nine and verse nineteen of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus said, “Jesus arose, and followed him” where we read:
And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.
The verse reads, “And Jesus arose, and followed him, ...” Matthew began with the words, “and Jesus” or “the Son of God, the Savior of Mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “arose” which means “erected, raised and lifted Himself up”, “and followed” or “joined and accompanied” “him” which refers to “the certain ruler”. Matthew shared how Jesus immediately got up from where He was and “followed” the “certain ruler” whose “daughter” was dying.
The verse continues, “... and so did his disciples.” Matthew added the words, “and so did” or “and even so and indeed followed” “his disciples” which means “Jesus' students, pupils and attendants”. Matthew shared how Jesus' “disciples” “followed” the “certain ruler” as well.
When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus went without delay to assist this “certain ruler's daughter”. Jesus' “students” were also “following”, and their interest must have been peaked to see what would happen. Jesus wants and desires to help people, and His first and most important assistance to people is to “save” them from their “sins”. “Sin” causes separation from God and eventually leads to “death”. (See Romans 3:23 and 6:23). Jesus has power over death, and this was an opportunity to demonstrate His ability to conquer “death” in this child. God wants every person to have a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus so that He might give them “everlasting life”, and through the “pending death” of this “certain ruler's daughter”, Jesus will demonstrate how He is able to give “eternal life” to all who “believe” or “trust in, rely upon and cling to” Him.
Next time Matthew shares about, “a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
