Matthew the apostle shared how Jesus told His disciples, “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that takes not his cross, and follows after me, is not worthy of me. He that finds his life shall lose it: and he that loses his life for my sake shall find it”, and in chapter ten and verse forty of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “he that receives you receives me” where we read:
He that receives you receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me.
The verse reads, “He that receives you receives me, ...” Matthew began with the words, “he that receives you” which means “the person whether male or female who grants access, embraces, approves and does not reject the disciples” “receives me” or “grants access, embraces, approves and does not reject Jesus”. Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples when people “accept and embrace” them, they were “accepting and embracing” Him.
The verse goes on to say, “... and he that receives me receives him that sent me.” Matthew continues with the words, “and he that receives me” which means “and the person who grants access, embraces, approves and does not reject” “receives him” or “grants access, embraces, approves and does not reject to the One - God” “that sent me” which means “who allowed Jesus to depart, dismiss and be set at liberty”. Matthew shared How Jesus told His disciples when people “accept and embrace” Him, they also “accept and embrace” God the Heavenly Father who “sent” Him.
When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see a direct relationship between people receiving Jesus' disciples, Himself and God. When a person “accepts” Jesus' disciples, they “accept” Him, and when they “accept” Him, they “accept” God the Father who “sent” Him as the Messiah. God desires to have a relationship with people, and when they “receive” His followers, they are aligning themselves with Jesus Christ and Almighty God. Those who are wise will understand how important these relationships are, and they shall “accept and embrace” God, Jesus and His disciples.
Next time Matthew shares how Jesus told His disciples what happens to the person who, “receives a prophet in the name of a prophet”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
