Blind Men Come to Jesus Matthew 9:28

Matthew the apostle shared about Jesus when, there came a certain ruler, and worshiped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples. And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; your faith has made you whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise. He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleeping. And they laughed him to scorn. But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.”Matthew continued, “And when Jesus departed there, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, You Son of David, have mercy on us.” In chapter nine and verse twenty-eight of his book, Matthew shared how, “blind men came to” Jesus where we read:

And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus said unto them,

Do you believe that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yes, Lord.

The verse reads, And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him:” Matthew began with the words, “and when he” or “and at the time and moment Jesus” “was come” which means “arrived, appeared and was come forth” “into the house” or “in the dwelling place, abode or habitation”, “the blind men” which refers to “the male human beings who could not see and whose vision was smokey or opaque” “came to him” or “approached and drew near to Jesus”. Matthew shared how the “two blind men” approached Jesus when He entered this house.

The verse continues, and Jesus said unto them, do you believe that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yes, Lord.” Matthew added the words, “and Jesus” or “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “said unto them” which means “uttered, declared, proclaimed to and questioned the two blind men”, “do you believe” which means “are you persuaded, convinced and of full confidence” “that I am able” or “that Jesus is capable, has power and strength” “to do this” which refers to “Jesus performing a miracle of healing their blindness”? “They said” or “the blind men uttered, declared, proclaimed and answered” “Yes, Lord” or “the One person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah verily, truly, assuredly and even so”. Matthew shared how Jesus asked the “two blind men” if they really “had confidence” that He could help them, and they answered with an emphatic “yes” while recognizing Him as “Lord”.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see Jesus testing these men to draw out their “belief and trust” in Him. He knew what He was going to do, and He desired for these men to have “confidence” in the fact that He could do it. God desires this type of faith, and perhaps He is asking us through this verse if we believe He will save us from our “spiritual blindness”. In other words, “do you believe that He is able to do this?”

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus, “touched their eyes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
