Desolation for Every Kingdom Divided Against Itself - Matthew 12:25

Matthew the apostle wrote how there was brought to Jesus, one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?” Matthew continues, “But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow does not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-five of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus said, “every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation” where we read:

And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

The verse reads, And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; Matthew began with the words, “and Jesus” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “knew” or “perceived, noticed, discerned and discovered” “their thoughts” which means “the Pharisees' thinking and consideration”, “and said” or “and uttered, proclaimed and declared” “unto them” which refers to “to the Pharisees”, “Every kingdom” or “each, the whole, all and everyone of the royal powers, kingship, dominions and rule” “divided” which means “separated, cut into pieces and split into factions” “against itself” or “down from, throughout, according to and toward that kingdom” “is brought to desolation” which means “is made desolate, wasted, ruined, despoiled and stripped of her treasures”. Matthew shared how Jesus “knew” what the Pharisees were thinking, and He referred to the “destruction and ruin” that is caused by “division” in a “kingdom”.

The verse continues, and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand. Matthew added the words, “and every city” which means “each, the whole, all and everyone of the native towns” “or house” which refers to “dwelling places, abodes and habitations” “divided” or “separated, cut into pieces and split into factions” “against itself” or “down from, throughout, according to and toward that town or dwelling place” “shall not stand” which means “will not remained firm, fixed, established or kept intact”. Matthew shared how Jesus told the Pharisees that each and every “town or dwelling place” with “division” will not remain or be kept intact.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus perceived what the Pharisees were thinking, and He gave them another example of the way life works. Kingdoms, cities and homes with “factions” are often destroyed. Jesus came to bring “peace on earth”, and yet, His presence has caused “division” among those around Him. God desires to have a “peaceful” relationship with people through His Son Jesus who is “Savior and Lord”. Those who align with the One who “knows” everything shall be “saved” and enjoy fellowship with God. Those who do not are “divided and separated” from God, and without “repentance” they shall experience eternal “ruin and destruction”.

Next time Matthew shares what Jesus said, “if Satan cast out Satan”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
