Speaking Against the Holy Ghost - Matthew 12:32

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathers not with me scatters abroad. Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men”, and in chapter twelve and verse thirty-two of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus about, “whosoever speaks against the Holy Ghostwhere we read:

And whosoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaks against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

The verse reads, And whosoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: Matthew began with the words, “and whosoever” which means “and whatever person whether male or female” “speaks” or “utters, declares and proclaims” “a word” which means “a decree, declaration, mandate or order” “against” which means “in opposition to, apart, aside and separated from” “the Son of man” or “the phrased used by Christ himself doubtless in order that he might intimate his Messiahship and also that he might designate himself as the head of the human family, the man, the one who both furnished the pattern of the perfect man and acted on behalf of all mankind”, “it shall be forgiven him” which means “speaking against the Son of man will be sent away, let go, let alone, disregarded and kept no longer”. Matthew shared how Jesus told the Pharisees and the people around Him that people speaking against Himself will be “forgiven” by God.

The verse continues, but whosoever speaks against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Matthew added the word, “but” which means “nevertheless, moreover and” “whosoever” or “whatever person whether male or female” “speaks” which means “utters, declares and proclaims” “against the Holy Ghost” or “in opposition to, apart, aside and separated from the third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal, co-eternal with the Father and the Son”, “it shall not be forgiven him” which means “it will not be sent away, let go, let alone, disregarded and kept no longer from that person”. Matthew shared how Jesus told the Pharisees and the multitude that a person who “speaks against” God's Holy Spirit will not be forgiven on earth or in heaven.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we discover an extremely important warning from Jesus concerning “blasphemy” against the Holy Spirit. Even though a person speaks against “the Son of man” who is Jesus, they will be “forgiven” for that sin, but when they speak against God's Holy Spirit, they will not be “forgiven” and will be eternally separated from God. God's Spirit woos a person to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and if a person rejects His offer, they have “blasphemed” or “spoken against” the Spirit of God. This is the only “sin” that will keep people out of heaven. All other sin will be “forgiven” by God, but “blasphemy” against His Spirit will not. Let all who read these words be warned and receive Jesus Christ as their “Savior” today or face an eternity of unforgiveness without Him.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus says, “either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
