Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus told the Pharisees, “in this place is one greater than the temple. But if you had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day”, and in chapter twelve and verse nine of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus said, “went into their synagogue” where we read:
And when he was departed from there, he went into their synagogue:
The verse reads, “And when he was departed from there, ...” Matthew began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “he was departed” which means “Jesus left, removed Himself and passed” “from there” which means “separate from the field of “corn” where He spoke to the Pharisees”. Matthew shared about the time when Jesus left the field of wheat.
The verse continues, “... he went into their synagogue.” Matthew added the words, “he went” which means “Jesus arose, appeared and arrived” “into their synagogue” or “in the city's building where those solemn Jewish assemblies are held”. Matthew shared how Jesus entered into the “worship” place in the city .
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus enters into the place of worship. It was Jesus' regular custom to go to the house of worship, (See Luke 4:16) and there He would often read from the scriptures or teach the people who gathered there. God loves people, and His desire is for them to have a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. Those who are wise will go to the place of worship and not forbid themselves from going there. (See Hebrews 10:25) When God's people gather together in an assembly to worship Him, He takes pleasure in their communion and inhabits their praises.
Next time Matthew shares how, “there was a man which had his hand withered”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
