Matthew the apostle wrote about Jesus, “While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. Then one said unto him, Behold, your mother and your brethren stand without, desiring to speak with you. But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!”, and in chapter twelve and verse fifty of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus' family is, “whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven” where we read:
For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven,
the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
The verse reads, “For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, ...” Matthew began with the word, “for” which means “because, since and on account that” “whosoever” or “whatever person whether male or female” “shall do the will” which means “will perform, produce, prepare and make the wishes, desires, purposes, commands and precepts” “of my Father” or “pertaining to Jesus' Father who is God Almighty” “which is in heaven” which means “who resides and abides in the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”. Matthew shared how Jesus' referred to the person who actually “performs” God's “desires and commands”.
The verse continues, “... the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Matthew added the words, “the same” which means “that selfsame person whether male or female” “is my brother” or “exists as Jesus' brother”, “and sister” which means “and Jesus' sister”, “and mother” or “and Jesus' mother”. Matthew shared how Jesus said when a person does as God “desires”, they become His family of “brothers, sisters and mothers”.
When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we recognize the desire God has for a “family” of believers. Those who put their faith and trust in His Son Jesus, become as “brothers, sisters and mothers” in the family of God. People are the “creation” of God, but they are not all in the family of God. One must believe in Jesus Christ's finished work on the cross to pay for their sins to be within God's family, and all who receive Jesus shall be adopted into God's family and live with Him forever and ever.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see Matthew share how Jesus went, “out of the house, and sat by the sea side”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
