Given to Disciples to Know the Mysteries - Matthew 13:11

Matthew the apostle wrote how, the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speak you unto them in parables?”, and in chapter thirteen and verse eleven of his book, Matthew wrote how Jesus answered His disciples, “it is given unto you to know the mysteries” where we read:

He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know

the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

The verse reads, He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know ... Matthew began with the words, “He answered” which means “Jesus responded” “and said” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto them” which means “to His disciples”, “because” or “since, on account of and ” “it is given” or “it is granted, bestowed, furnished and supplied” “unto you” which means “to the disciples of Jesus” “to know” or “to understand, perceive and become acquainted with learn”. Matthew wrote how Jesus responded to the disciple's question concerning speaking to the multitudes in “parables”.

The verse goes on to say, ... the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Matthew added the words, “the mysteries” which means “the hidden things, mysteries and secrets” “of the kingdom” or “belonging to the royal power, kingship, dominion and rule” “of heaven” which refers to “belonging to the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”, “but” or “moreover and” “to them” which refers to “toward the people in the multitude” “it is not given” or “the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven are not granted, bestowed, furnish and supplied”. Matthew shared how His “disciples” were given the advantage of knowing the “mysteries” concerning the “kingdom of heaven”, however, those who were not His “disciples” do not know them.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus gave exclusive rights to His disciples to know the “secrets” within God's Kingdom. The multitude was not to “know or understand” them even as the world does not know the “mysteries” of God. God desires for people to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and when they do, God's “mysteries” will be revealed. Otherwise, those outside of the Kingdom of God will remain in a dumbfounded state while they attempt to know God's secret truths and ways.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus tells His disciples, “whosoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
