Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus, “the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls”, and in chapter thirteen and verse forty-six of his book, Matthew wrote how Jesus tells His disciples how the “merchant man” found, “a pearl of great price” where we read:
Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
The verse reads, “Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, ...” Matthew began with the word, “who” which means “the merchant man”, “when” or “at the time and moment” “he had found” which means “the merchant man came upon, hit upon, met with, discovered, detected and recognized” “one pearl” or “one single certain pearl” “of great price” which means “extremely valuable”. Matthew shared how Jesus referred to when the “merchant man” discovered a “extremely valuable” “pearl”.
The verse continues, “... went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” Matthew added the words, “went and sold” which means “departed and left where he was and disposed of as merchandise” “all” or “each, every, the whole and everything” “that he had” which means “that the merchant man held, owned and possessed”, “and bought it” or “and purchased or redeemed the valuable pearl”. Matthew shared how the “merchant man” “sold” everything he owned to be able to purchase the “valuable pearl” he found.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how there was exchange of everything the “merchant man” owned because of the worth of the “valuable pearl” he discovered. God gave His most valuable asset, His precious Son Jesus, when He recognized “people” to be like the “valuable pearl”. God loves people, and He “gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but shall have everlasting life” (John 3:16) to “save” them. Let all who read these words realize their value to God and submit their lives to Jesus Christ, the heavenly “merchant man”, as their “Savior and Lord”.
Next time Matthew shares how Jesus told His disciples how, “the kingdom of heaven is like unto a a net”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
