The Full Net Drawn to Shore - Matthew 13:48

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, “the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:, and in chapter thirteen and verse forty-eight of his book, Matthew wrote how Jesus tells His disciples, when the net, “was full, they drew to shore” where we read:

Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down,

and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

The verse reads, Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, ... Matthew began with the word, “which” which means “that”, “when” or “at the time and moment” “it was full” which means “the net was filled up, completed and liberally supplied”, “they drew” or “the fishermen caused the net to go up or ascend” “to shore” which means “to the beach or shore of the sea”, “and sat down” or “and settled, fixed their abode and tarried”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the “net” of the fisherman was “full” and he and his companions dragged it to the seashore and “sat down” there.

The verse continues, “... and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. Matthew added the words, “and gathered” which means “and collected and assembled” “the good” or “the beautiful, handsome, excellent, eminent, choice, surpassing, precious, useful, suitable, commendable and admirable” “into vessels” which means “in receptacles, pails or reservoirs”, “but” or “nevertheless, moreover and” “cast” which means “threw, scattered and poured out” “the bad away” or “put forth and outward the rotten, putrefied, corrupted, worthless and unfit for us”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the fishermen “collected” the “precious and beautiful” sea creatures into “reservoirs” and “threw out” the “rotten and worthless” ones.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how the fishermen kept the “good” catch and “threw away” the bad. God desires for every person to be “caught” in His loving “net” of “salvation” through His Son Jesus, and He knows those who will “believe and trust” in Him. However, God also knows those who shall reject Him and His Son Jesus Christ, and they shall be “cast away” for all eternity. Let all who read these words take heed and yield their lives to the “net” of Jesus Christ today.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus told His disciples, “so shall it be at the end of the world”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
