Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus, “sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. He answered and said unto them, He that sows the good seed is the Son of man; The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels”, and in chapter thirteen and verse forty of his book, Matthew wrote how Jesus tells His disciples, “the tares are gathered and burned in the fire” where we read:
As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
The verse reads, “As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire;” Matthew began with the words, “as therefore” which means “just and even as then, accordingly, consequently and these things being so” “the tares” or “the darnels and bad seed” “are gathered” which means “are collected in order to carry off” “and burned” or “and wholly consumed” “in the fire” which means “within the fiery fire”. Matthew shared how Jesus referred to the way the “tares” are collected and put into a burning fire.
The verse continues, “so shall it be in the end of this world.” Matthew added the words, “so shall it be” which means “so will it fall and follow” “in the end” or “in the the completion and consummation” “of the world” which means “pertaining to the unbroken age, perpetuity of time, eternity and age”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the gathering of the tares which are burned will be like the “completion” of this present age.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus told His disciples that people who are the “bad seed” or “tares” will be “gathered up” at the “end of the age” and “burned” even as the “tares of the field” in His story. God provides this “parable” well in advance of it's actual execution, and when a person realizes they have lived their lives as a “tare” or “bad seed”, they have an opportunity to receive Jesus Christ as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and they shall never know the fate of the “tares” who do not submit His plan.
Next time Matthew shares how Jesus told His disciples, “the Son of man shall send forth his angels”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
