Offenders and Doers of Iniquity Cast into a Fiery Furnace - Matthew 13:42

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus, “sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. He answered and said unto them, He that sows the good seed is the Son of man; The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity”, and in chapter thirteen and verse forty-two of his book, Matthew wrote how Jesus said the angels, “shall cast them into a furnace of fire” where we read:

And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

The verse reads, And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: Matthew began with the words, “and shall them” which means “and will throw, scatter and pour wicked things and people” “into a furnace” or “in a burning or smelting place” “of fire” which means “of fiery fire”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the “angels” who harvest “wicked things and people” from His Kingdom will “throw them into” a burning fiery place.

The verse continues, there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Matthew added the words, “there shall be wailing” which means “there will exist weeping and lamentation” “and gnashing” or “snarling and growling in the sense of biting” “of teeth” which means “with the teeth in their mouths”. Matthew shared how Jesus said this burning place of torment would be filled with great “mourning, weeping and lamentation” and those thrown in there shall “gnash their teeth” in agony.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we discover the great woe of this final destination for evil and wickedness and those who practice them. Tears should flow from our eyes knowing there will be people who have not received Jesus Christ as their personal “Savior and Lord” and will be thrown into this place because they practiced “iniquity” in the world. God desires to “save” every person from this horrible fate, and those who receive His Son Jesus “shall not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). As we ponder these things, let all who read these words of Jesus take heed and yield to His plan of “salvation” before “weeping, lamentation and grinding of teeth” becomes their eternal end.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus told His disciples, “the righteous shall shine forth as the son”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
