The Parable of the Tares Explained - Matthew 13:37

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus, “sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field”, and in chapter thirteen and verse thirty-seven of his book, Matthew wrote how Jesus tells His disciples another parable about how Jesus began to explain, ”the parable of the tares” where we read:

He answered and said unto them, He that sows the good seed is the Son of man;

The verse reads, He answered and said unto them, ... Matthew began with the words, “he answered” which means “Jesus responded” “and said” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto them” or “to the disciples”. Matthew shared how Jesus answered His inquisitive disciples with the following words.

The verse continues, “... He that sows the good seed is the Son of man; Matthew added the words, “he that sows” which means “the person who scatters” “the good seed” or “the beautiful, handsome, excellent, eminent, choice, surpassing, precious, useful, suitable, commendable and admirable grain or kernel which contains within itself the germ of the future plants” “is the Son of man” which means “Christ Himself or Jesus who is the one who both furnished the pattern of the perfect man and acted on behalf of all mankind”. Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples the “sower” of the “precious and admirable” “seed” was Himself.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus put Himself in this parable. He is the one who scatters the “good seed” of the gospel or “good news” of God. God's purpose and plan for Jesus was that He come as the Messiah, “Savior and Lord” of the world, and He employed the agrarian illustration of a “farmer” scattering seed. He came presenting the gospel to everyone who is alive, and may all who read these words realize the power in the message of the Messiah.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus, “the field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
