Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, “the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away”, and in chapter thirteen and verse forty-nine of his book, Matthew wrote how Jesus tells His disciples about the way, “it shall be at the end of the world” where we read:
So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth,
and sever the wicked from among the just,
The verse reads, “So shall it be at the end of the world:” Matthew began with the words, “so shall it be” which means “thus shall it fall and follow” “at the end” or “at the completion and consummation” “of the world” which means “pertaining to the age, perpetuity of time, world and period of time”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the “net” thrown “into the sea” which gathered different types of sea creatures is similar to the way it will be at the “end of this age”.
The verse goes on to say, “the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,” Matthew continued with the words, “the angels” which means “the messengers and envoys of God” “shall come forth” or “will arise, appear, emanate and issue”, “and sever” which means “separate, set apart and divide” “the wicked” or “the annoying, bad and evil” “from among” which means “out and away from the midst or among” “the just” or “the righteous, observers of divine law, upright and virtuous”. Matthew shared how Jesus said His “angels” will come to “divide” “evil people” from the “righteous” .
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how there is to be a judgment of people upon the earth. Those who are “wicked and evil” will be separated from the “good and righteous”, and those who have received Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” shall be among those who are deemed “just”. God desires to have a loving personal relationship with every person, and when the collecting and dividing takes place at the “end of the world”, each person will be judged by the decision they made concerning a relationship with Jesus. Let all who read these words be warned.
Next time Matthew shares how Jesus told His disciples how the angels, “shall cast them into the furnace of fire”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
