Showed by the Mouth of Prophets - Acts 3:18

Luke the physician wrote how Peter told the people who gathered together after the lame man at the temple was healed, “The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Son Jesus; whom you delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you. And killed the Prince of life, whom God has raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. And his name through faith in his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know: yes, the faith which is by him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. And now, brethren, I know that through ignorance you did it, as did also your rulers”, and in chapter three and verse eighteen of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter refers to, “those things, which God before had showed by the mouth of all his prophets” where we read:

But those things, which God before had showed by the mouth of all his prophets,

that Christ should suffer, he has so fulfilled.

The verse begins, “But those things, which God before had showed by the mouth of all his prophets, ...” Luke began with the words, “but those things” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover what Jesus did”, “which God before had showed” or “that God the Heavenly Father pre-announced and prophesied” “by the mouth of all his prophets” which means “through the part of the body used for utterance and eating belonging to each, every, the whole and everyone of his, God's, ones who were moved by the Spirit of God and hence his organ or spokesman who solemnly declared to men what they received by inspiration especially concerning future events, and in particular such as relate to the cause and kingdom of God and to human salvation”. Luke shared how “Peter” told the people who gathered around him and John that “God” “prophesied” in advance through His “prophets” concerning Jesus.

The verse continues, “... that Christ should suffer, he has so fulfilled.” Luke added the words, “that Christ should suffer” or “that the anointed One and Messiah would be affected, undergo a bad plight”, “he has so fulfilled” which means “he, Jesus Christ, liberally supplied, furnished and rendered full”. Luke shared how “Peter” referred to how God's “prophets” pre-announced that the Messiah would experience bad things and be affected by them, and Jesus “liberally supplied” the fulfillment of those prophesies. (See Isaiah 53)

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Peter” referred to the way God announced in advance that the Messiah would “suffer”, and Jesus “fulfilled” that “prophesy”. God is eternal, and He sees the future as though it is now, and when He spoke through His prophets about His Messiah “suffering”, He knew the bad plight Jesus would endure. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to “suffer” and die for the sins of the world, and because He did, everyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Lord and Savior” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. Let all who consider God's advance knowledge of the “suffering”of His Messiah Jesus understand He “suffered” all these things so they may eternally live with Him.

Next time Luke shares how Peter says, “Repent you therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
