Silver and Gold Have I None - Acts 3:6

Luke the physician wrote how, “Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple. Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them”, and in chapter three and verse six of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter told the lame man, “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I to you” where we read:

Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I to you:

In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

The verse begins, “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I to you:” Luke began with the words, “then Peter said” which means “at that time Peter who was one of Jesus' disciples whose name means a little rock or stone uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “silver and gold” or “silver money and gold money” “have I none” which means “I, Peter, do not possess, own or hold”; “but such as I have” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover that which I possess, own and hold” “give I to you” which means “grant, furnish, supply and bestow I, Peter, to you, lame man”. Luke shared how “Peter” told the lame man that he did not possess any “silver or gold”, however, that which he did have he would “bestow” upon him.

The verse continues, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” Luke added the words, “in the name of Jesus Christ” or “in the name which is used for everything which the name covers including thoughts or feelings which are aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing and remembering belonging to Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate, the anointed One and Messiah” “of Nazareth” which means “from the small village in Galilee whose name means one separated” “rise up” or “stir up and arise” “and walk” which means “and amble about and tread all around”. Luke shared how “Peter” told the “lame man” to get up and “walk” around in “Jesus Christ of Nazareth's name”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn that “Peter” did not have “silver and gold” or the riches of this world, but he did possess “power” from God on High to heal this crippled man. Monetary charity would have kept this man in his “lame” condition, however, should “Peter” lift him up to “walk”, his entire life would be changed. God is in the “changing” business, and His desire is to help every person who yields to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Everyone is “crippled” spiritually before God because their sins separate them from a relationship with God. Jesus came to “save and heal” everyone who believes and trusts in Him, and He will forgive their sins, grant them everlasting life and remove what is making them “lame”. Let all who read these words submit themselves to the only “name”, “Jesus Christ”, who is able to make the “cripple” whole.

Next time Luke shares how Peter took the lame man, “by the right hand, and lifted him up”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
