Faith in His Name - Acts 3:16

Luke the physician wrote how Peter told the people who gathered together after the lame man at the temple was healed, “The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Son Jesus; whom you delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you. And killed the Prince of life, whom God has raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses”, and in chapter three and verse sixteen of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter told the people, “his name through faith in his name has made this man strong” where we read:

And his name through faith in his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know:

yes, the faith which is by him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

The verse begins, “And his name through faith in his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know:” Luke began with the words, “and his name” which means “and his, Jesus', name which is used for everything which the name covers including the thoughts or feelings which are aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing, and remembering” “'through faith in his name” or “by way of conviction of the truth and belief within his, Jesus', name which is used for everything which the name covers including the thoughts or feelings which are aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing, and remembering” “has made this man strong” which means “has strengthened, made solid and firm this male human being, the lame man”, “whom you see and know” or “who you observe, notice, discern and perceive”. Luke shared how Peter said it was by “faith and trust” in the “name” of Jesus that the “lame man” who was known by the people in the temple was strengthened in his legs and walked.

The verse continues, “yes, the faith which is by him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.” Luke added the words, “yes, the faith which is by him” or “even so and indeed, the conviction of the truth, trust and belief that is through and by means of him, Jesus” “has given him” which means “has granted, bestowed, furnished and supplied the lame man with” “this perfect soundness” or “this unimpaired condition, good health and physical wholeness” “in the presence of you all” which means “before and in the sight of each, every, the whole and everyone of you people who gathered to Peter and John”. Luke shared how Peter confirmed that “believing and trusting” in Jesus provided “good health and physical wholeness” to the formally lame man in front of all the people who gathered themselves to him.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn what enabled “Peter and John” to “heal” the “lame man”. “Peter” told the people who rushed toward him and John that the lame man was made whole through belief and trust in the “name” of Jesus. Jesus told His disciples they would receive “power” after the “Holy Spirit” was come upon them, and they were demonstrating that “power” by believing in Him to make the “lame man” whole. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they yield their lives to Him as their “Savior and Lord” , He will forgive their sins, grant them everlasting life and fill them with His Holy Spirit to be His “witnesses” throughout the world. Those who carefully examine the healing of this “lame man” understand by “faith” in Jesus' name He was made whole, and when they understand the “power” in Jesus' name, they should surrender their lives to Him.

Next time Luke shares how Peter tells the people, “I know that through ignorance you did it”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
