Luke the physician wrote how Peter told the people who gathered together after the lame man at the temple was healed to, “Repent you therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you”, and in chapter three and verse twenty-one of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter said of Jesus, “Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things” where we read:
Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things,
which God has spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
The verse begins, “Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, ...” Luke began with the words, “whom the heaven” which means “whom, speaking of Jesus, the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings” “must receive” which means “was needful and necessary to take hold of, embrace, approve and sustain” “until the times of restitution of all things” or “till the special period pertaining to the reconstitution and restoration of a true theocracy and perfect state before the fall pertaining to each, every, the whole and everything”. Luke shared how “Peter” told the people who gathered that Jesus was to be in “heaven” until the “times” when the “restoration of a true theocracy” arrives.
The verse goes on to say, “... which God has spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.” Luke added the words, “which God” or “that the Heavenly Father God” “has spoken by the mouth” which means “declared, made known and uttered through the physical mouths” “of all his holy prophets” or “belonging to each, every, the whole and everyone of his, God's, sacred, pure, morally blameless and ceremonially and religiously consecrated ones who were moved by the Spirit of God and therefore his organs or spokesmen who solemnly declared to men what they received by inspiration, especially concerning future events, and in particular such as relate to the cause and kingdom of God and to human salvation” “since the world began” which means “from the time and origin of the beginning of the unbroken age, perpetuity of time and eternity”. Luke shared how “Peter” told the people who gathered that “God” made declarations about the Messiah, Jesus, through His “holy prophets” from the “unbroken age and perpetuity of time”.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn not only how Jesus is to remain in the “heavenly region” until the “reconstitution of all things”, but also that God spoke of these things since before the world began. Prophecy in the scriptures tells of the plan of God's salvation for man through His Son Jesus, and when Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world, He provided access to God for the forgiveness of those sins which separated people from God. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with everyone who yields their life to His Son Jesus. Those who are wise will study the scriptures and discover how God knew all these things in advance, and He brought them about to bring His “good news” of “salvation” to mankind.
Next time Luke shares how Peter tells how Moses said, “A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
