Luke the physician wrote how Peter said to the lame man at the temple, “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I to you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God”, and in chapter three and verse nine of the book of Acts Luke shared how “all the people saw him walking and praising God” where we read:
And all the people saw him walking and praising God:
The verse begins, “And all the people saw him walking ...” Luke began with the words, “and all the people” which means “and each, every, the whole and everyone of the human beings both male and female who were at the temple” “saw him walking” or “observed, noticed and discerned him, the lame man, ambling about and treading around”. Luke shared how everyone who was at the temple saw the man who was lame “ambling and treading around” them.
The verse goes on to say, “... and praising God:” Luke continued with the words, “and praising” or “and extolling, singing praises to and honoring” “God” which means “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared how the people observed the formally lame man now “singing praises and honoring” God.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how the exuberance of this lame man who was healed became a testimony to the other people who were observing him. Many of them knew him or at least recognized him because they saw him at the temple gate, and maybe others were simply amazed at his outward demonstration of gratitude to God. We shall see how they knew him in our next verse, but for now let us imagine seeing this man enjoying his miracle and praising God for it, and may his joy be the reason many people come to believe and trust in Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”.
Next time Luke shares how the people, “knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
