Let the Armed Pass Before the Ark - Joshua 6:7

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD”, and in chapter six and verse seven of the book of Joshua, we learn how Joshua, “said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD” where we read,

And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city,

and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.

,

The verse reads, And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, …Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and he said unto the people” which means “and he, Joshua, uttered, declared and proclaimed to the human beings of Israel”, “pass on”  or “cross, traverse and march”, “and compass the city” which means “and go around and encircle the dwelling place and town of Jericho”. Joshua instructed the “people” of Israel to march ahead and encircle the town of Jericho.

The verse continues, “… and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.” Joshua added the words, “and let him that is armed” or “and allow and permit him, the person, who is equipped for battle and war to” “pass on before the ark” which means “cross, traverse and march in front and in advance of the box or chest” “of the LORD” or “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and is the proper name for the One True God”. Joshua instructed the people of Israel to allow those who were equipped for battle to proceed in advance of Jehovah God's “ark of the Covenant”.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover how Joshua instructed the people of Israel to march ahead and encircle the city of Jericho, and they were to allow the warriors who were equipped for battle to go in advance of Jehovah God’s “ark of the Covenant”. God’s plan to deliver the city of Jericho into the hand of Joshua and the people of Israel was underway, and all they needed to do was obey. We shall see more of how the mighty hand of God was at work in the midst of the people of Israel, and in the same manner, He is at work in our lives. He sent His Only begotten Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when He raised Him from the dead after three days, He made the way through faith, trust and obedience to Him as our “Savior and Lord” to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and equipped for our battles with His Holy Spirit guiding us into all truth and empowering us to live according to that truth so our lives will be pleasing and blessed by Him. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8)

Next time we learn what happened, “when Joshua had spoken unto the people”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
