Take Up the Ark and the Seven Trumpets - Joshua 6:6

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into your hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valor. And you shall compass the city, all you men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shall you do six days. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day you shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him”, and in chapter six and verse six of the book of Joshua, we learn how Joshua tells the priests, “take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD” where we read,

And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD.

,

The verse reads, And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, …Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and Joshua” whose name means “Jehovah is salvation” “the son of Nun”  or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Nun whose name means fish or posterity” “called the priest” which means “summoned the spiritual leaders, rulers and officials”, “and said unto them” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed to them, the priests” the following words. Joshua, who was Nun’s, male offspring summoned the spiritual leaders, and uttered the following words to them.

The verse goes on to say, “… take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD.” Joshua continued with the words, “take up the ark of the covenant” or “lift up and carry the box or chest pertaining to the alliance, treaty, pledge and agreement”, “and let seven priests” which means “and allow and permit seven spiritual leaders, rulers and officials” “bear seven trumpets” or “lift up and carry seven cornets” “of ram’s horns” which means “fashioned from the horns of a ram” “before the ark of the LORD” or “in front and in advance of the box or chest belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God”. Joshua instructed the spiritual leaders to lift up and carry the “chest of agreement” and allow “seven” spiritual leaders to carry “seven” cornets fashioned from the horns of rams in advance of the “chest of agreement” belonging to Jehovah God.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Joshua carried out God’s instructions concerning the “priests, the ark of the covenant and the seven priests who were to carry the cornets made from ram’s horns”. Step by step the people of Israel were following God’s way, and  this was the only way the city would be given to them. God has one way of salvation, (See John 14:6) and that is through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. All who believe and trust in Him will have their sins forgiven, be granted everlasting life and be equipped with His Holy Spirit who will lead them into all truth and direct them in keeping with His perfect will and plan for their lives.

Next time we learn how Joshua, “said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
