In the book of Joshua, we learned, “when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns passed on before the LORD, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them. And the armed men weren’t before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets”, and in chapter six and verse ten of the book of Joshua, we learn how, “Joshua commanded the people” where we read,
And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, you shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall you shout.
,
The verse reads, “And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, you shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and Joshua” whose name means “Jehovah is Salvation” “had commanded the people” or “charged or ordered the human beings of Israel”, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “you shall not shout” or “you, people of Israel, will in no way or manner raise a sound, cry out or give a blast or alarm of battle”, “nor make any noise” which means “no and not in any way proclaim or sound aloud” “with your voice” or “by the use of your, the people of Israel’s, calling out, proclaiming or making sounds through the mouth and throat”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Joshua” charged the people to be quiet and not to make a sound with their “voices”.
The verse goes on to say, “… neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall you shout.” Joshua continued with the words, “neither shall any word” or “no and not in any manner will a single speech, utterance or saying” “proceed out of your mouth” which means “go forth, exit or depart from your, the people of Israel’s, orifice in the faced used for eating, drinking and speaking”, “until the day I bid you shout” or “till such a sunrise to sunset that I, Joshua, command you, the people of Israel, to raise a sound and cry out”: “then shall you shout” which means “at that time and moment you, the people of Israel, will give a blast and cry aloud with their voices”. Joshua or the writer added how the people of Israel were not to allow any utterances to come from the orifices in their faces used for speaking till such time that Joshua commanded them to give a blast and cry aloud and at that time the people of Israel were to cry aloud with a loud noise.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Joshua ordered the people of Israel not to make a blast with their voices or utter anything from their “mouths” till such time as he instructed them to do so, and then they were to cry aloud. In other words, there was an order to God’s instructions for conquering and seizing the city and people of Jericho. God was with Israel, and as they followed Him, they would be successful in fulfilling His will. In like manner, when we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead after three days, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us step by step according to His will and purpose for our lives.
Next time we learn how, “the ark of the LORD compassed the city”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
