God was not Well Pleased 1 Corinthians 10:5

Paul the apostle shared with the church members in Corinth concerning how the children of Israel in the wilderness, “all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” In chapter ten and verse five of First Corinthians, Paul recalled how “with many of them God was not well pleased” where we read:

But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

The verse begins, But with many of them God was not well pleased:” Paul began with the word, “But” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written takes precedence over what was just stated “with many” or “in a greater or more part” “of them” which refers to “the children of Israel” “God” which means “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “was not well pleased” or “did not take pleasure in and was not favorably inclined toward”. Because they rebelled against God, God “did not take pleasure in” them.

The verse goes on to say, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.” Paul continued with the words, “for” or “even as, indeed, seeing then, verily and therefore” “they were overthrown” which means “the children of Israel were lain prostrate, slain and strewn over” “in the wilderness” which refers to “the desolate, uninhabited desert places”. The result of the people “rebelling” against God was they were “”slain and strewn over” in the wilderness desert.

When we think through these words from Paul, we see how he continued his example of the Israelites traveling in the wilderness after they left Egypt. Many of the people of Israel rebelled against God and His ways, and God was not “pleased” with them. This caused God to allow them to be “slain and strewn over” the wilderness desert. Jesus Christ, as with God, desires for people to follow Him, and when they do, they give Him pleasure. Otherwise, people are subject to being “overthrown” by God, and thus it is important that we realize that we must be “pleasing” to God, and may we never face being “strewn or slain” anywhere by Him.

Next time Paul told the church members in Corinth, “these things were our examples”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
