Power on the Woman's Head 1 Corinthians 11:10

Paul the apostle told the church members in Corinth, “the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man”, and he continued, “neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man”. In chapter eleven and verse ten of First Corinthians, Paul shared with the Corinthian church members how the woman “ought the woman to have power on her head”, where we read:

For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

The verse begins, For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head ...”. Paul began with the word, “for” which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore” “this cause” or “this reason or account” “ought” which means “owes and is in debt” “the woman” which refers to “the female human being” “to have power” or “authority, jurisdiction and rule” “on her head” which means “on the woman's supreme, chief, prominent and master portion of the body”. According to Paul, because the “man” was “created” first and the woman was “created” for the man, the “woman” should be veiled when she “prayed and prophesied”.

The verse goes on to say, ...because of the angels.” Paul continued with the word, “because” which means “by means, reason and account” “of the angels” which refers to “the messengers, envoys, ones sent and messengers from God ”. Paul infers there are “angels” who are among those who “pray and prophesy”, and since there are, the “woman” should be veiled.

When we meditate upon these words from Paul, we understand his passion about “the woman” having a “covering” over her head when she “prayed and prophesied”. The idea of “angels” being among the church members gives greater reason to have the reverence for authority and order, and while we continue to learn about how Jesus Christ desires for His church to be, let us follow Paul's idea of “rule” and “submission” among other believers.

Next time Paul tells the church members, “neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
