Pray to the Lord of the Harvest Matthew 9:38

Matthew the apostle shared how, they brought to” Jesus “a dumb man possessed with a devil. And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marveled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. But the Pharisees said, He casts out devils through the prince of the devils. And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then said he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few;” In chapter nine and verse thirty-eight of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, “pray you therefore the Lord of the harvest” where we read:

Pray you therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.

The verse reads, “Pray you therefore the Lord of the harvest, ...” Matthew began with the words, “pray you therefore” or “because, since and on account of this, disciples of Jesus ask, beg and desire” “the Lord” which refers to “One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title to God the Messiah” “of the harvest” or “belonging to the the act of reaping and gathering people into the kingdom of God”. Matthew shared how Jesus instructed His disciples to “pray” to “the Lord” to whom the reaping of people belongs.

The verse goes on to say, “... that he will send forth laborers into his harvest. Matthew continued with the words, “that he will send forth” or “that God would compel, command and lead forth” “laborers” which means “workmen and toilers” “into his harvest” or “into God's act of reaping and gathering people into the kingdom of God”. Jesus told His disciples to pray that God would “compel and lead forth” “workers” into His field of people who were to be “harvested” and saved.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus wanted His disciples to involve themselves through prayer in the “harvest” of souls for the Kingdom of God. God desires to reach people everywhere with His “good news” of “salvation”, and when “disciples” of Jesus “pray” for there to be “workers” in God's field, they have involve themselves in the greatest “gathering of souls” that shall ever be. May all who read these words not only align themselves with God' plan of “salvation” through Jesus, but also “pray” for the “Lord” to “send” more “harvesters” into His field.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Jesus give his disciples, “power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
