The Blind Men Spread Jesus' Fame Matthew 9:31

Matthew the apostle shared when Jesus raised a little girl back to life again, the fame hereof went abroad into all that land. And when Jesus departed there, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, You Son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus said unto them, Do you believe that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yes, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straightly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.” In chapter nine and verse thirty-one of his book, Matthew shared how, “they … spread abroad” Jesus' “fame in all that country” where we read:

But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.

The verse reads, But they, when they were departed, ...” Matthew began with the words, “but they” or “nevertheless, notwithstanding, moreover and the two blind men”, “when” which means “at the time and moment” “they were departed” or “the blind men left where they were”. Matthew referred to the time when the two blind men left the house where Jesus healed them.

The verse goes on to say, “... spread abroad his fame in all that country.” Matthew added the words, “spread abroad” or “divulged, blazed and reported” “his fame” which means “Jesus' renown, laurels and honor” “in all” or “within each, every, the whole and everyone of” “that country” which refers to “the arable land, territory, country and region”. Matthew shared how the two blind men told people throughout the countryside about Jesus.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how these men were so excited about what happened to them they could not resist spreading the news about Jesus. The entire countryside knew about Jesus, and although they were exhorted not to do so, the “blind men” told everybody about Jesus. God desires for people to be excited about Him, and those who experience a true encounter with Jesus cannot contain themselves for sharing Him with others.

Next time Matthew shares how, “they brought” Jesus “a dumb man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
