In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly”, and in chapter eighteen and verse nine of Proverbs Solomon shared about the person who is, “slothful in his work” where we read,
He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
The verse begins, “He also that is slothful in his work ...” Solomon began with the words, “he also that is slothful” or “the person whether male or female even so and indeed who relaxed, sunken down, abandon and forsaken” “in his work” which means “within the person's labor, business, occupation, service and use” exists as the following. Solomon referred to the person who is lazy and sunken down within their labors and business.
The verse continues, “... is brother to him that is a great waster.” Solomon added the words, “is brother” or “exists as the male sibling and kinship” “to him that is a great waster” which means “to the person who exists as a massive, abundant and plentiful destroyer, perverter, corrupter and spoiler”. Solomon said the person who is lazy in their labor is like a “brother” to the person who is an abundant destroyer.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how being lazy and being an abundant destroyer go hand in hand. God gives people the ability to work, and they should work and avoid all “slothfulness” when possible. He also provided the resources we have in the world, and we are not to “waste” or “destroy” them without proper cause. When a person comes to Jehovah God through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for their sins, He will forgive their sins, grant them everlasting life and cause them to never be lazy nor an abundant corrupter with His provision in this world.
Next time Solomon says, “the name of the LORD is a strong tower”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
