Paul
the apostle shared how “none of the
princes of this world knew” the
“wisdom”
he and his companions shared concerning the “gospel
of Jesus Christ”
because if they did, “they would not
have crucified the Lord of glory”.
In chapter two and verse nine of First
Corinthians, Paul the apostle continued his letter by sharing how he
and his companions “speak the wisdom
of God in a mystery”
where we read:
But as
it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered
into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them
that love him.
The verse begins, “But
as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have
entered into the heart of man,...”
Paul began
with the word, “But”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated “as
it is written”
or “according, just and even as was wrote in the sacred books of
the Old Testament” “Eye”
or “vision and sight” “has not
seen”
which is the Greek phrase “eidō ou
eidō” and
means
“has not perceived, turned the eyes to, noticed, discerned or
discovered”, “nor ear heard”
or “even as and indeed hearing or perceiving with the mind and the
faculty of understanding and knowing”
“neither have entered”
which means “not ascended, gone up, rose, borne, imagined or sprung
up” “into the heart”
or “even and indeed in the center of all physical and spiritual
life” “of man”
which refers to “human beings whether male or female”. According
to Paul, no one is able to perceive what Paul is about to declare.
The
verse goes on to say, “...
the things which God has prepared for them that love him.”.
Paul
continued with the words, “the things
which” which
means “things that” “God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “has
prepared”
or “has made and gotten ready a fit reception and secured
blessings” “for them”
which means “the people” “that
love him”
or “who unconditionally welcome, entertain, are fond of and content
with God”. God has “made ready” “things”
for people who love Him that are well beyond the capacity to imagine
or understand.
When
we meditate upon these words from Paul, he referred to Isaiah chapter
sixty four and verse four where we read, “For
since the beginning of the world men
have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither has the eye seen, O
God, beside you, what
he has prepared for him that waits for him.” Paul
knew the “wisdom of God”
which was the “gospel of Jesus Christ” that he shared with the
Corinthians was eternal, and only those to whom God revealed this
truth were promised blessings beyond their ability to “see,
hear or imagine in their hearts”.
When we love and receive Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we are
promised these great “things that God
has prepared”,
and when we see them, they will be more than we could ever imagine.
Next
time Paul shares how God has “revealed
them unto us by his Spirit”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
