Characteristics of the Kingdom of God Romans 14:17

Paul the apostle told the believers in Rome to, “Let not then your good be evil spoken of”, and in chapter fourteen and verse seventeen of Romans, Paul shared with the believers about, “the kingdom of God” where we read:

For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness,
and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

The verse begins, For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink;” Paul began with the word, “for” which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore” “the kingdom” or “the royal power, kingship, dominion, rule and the territory subject to the rule of a king” “of God” which means “pertaining to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “is not meat” or “is not meat which is eaten” “and drink” which refers to “and that which is imbibed”. Paul declared God's “kingdom” not to be about “food and drink”.

The verse goes on to say, “but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” Paul continued with the word, “but” which means “nevertheless, notwithstanding, moreover and” “righteousness” or “state of him who is as he ought to be and the condition acceptable to God ”, “and peace” which refers to “tranquility, security, safety, prosperity and felicity”, “and joy” or “gladness and calm delight” “in the Holy Ghost” which refers to “within God's most Holy, sacred, pure and morally blameless third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal, co-eternal with the Father and the Son ”. Paul declared God's “kingdom” was comprised of “the condition acceptable to God, tranquility, safety and gladness”.

When we think through these words of Paul, we see how God's “kingdom” consists of spiritual elements including “righteousness, peace and joy” rather than physical components like “food and drink”. Jesus Christ came to “save” people from their “sins”, and when they receive Him as “Savior an d Lord” He provides “the condition acceptable to Him, tranquility, safety, security, gladness and calm delight”. Rather than concern themselves over “temporary” things such as “meat and drink”, their efforts should be directed toward “eternal” and “spiritual” aspects such as “righteousness, peace and joy”.

Next time Paul tells the believers in Rome how to be, “acceptable to God, and approved of men”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
