Paul
the apostle asked the believers in Rome, “Who
are you that judges another man's servant?”,
and he continued,
“to his own master he stands or falls. Yes, he shall be held up:
for God is able to make him stand”,
and in chapter
fourteen and verse five of Romans,
Paul referred to how some people “esteem”,
“one
day above another” or
“every
day alike” where
we read:
One
man esteems one day above another: another esteems every day alike.
Let
every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
The
verse begins, “One
man esteems one day above another: another esteems every day alike.”
Paul
began with the words, “one
man”
which means “a certain human whether male or female” “esteems”
or “separates, puts asunder, picks out, selects, chooses, prefers
and is of the opinion” “one
day”
which means
“a
certain natural day or the interval between sunrise and sunset as
distinguished from and contrasted with the night” “above
another”
or “from and beside an other certain natural day or the interval
between sunrise and sunset as distinguished from and contrasted with
the night”: “another”
which refers to “an other person who” “esteems”
or “separates, puts asunder, picks out, selects, chooses, prefers
and is of the opinion” “every
day”
which means “each, all, the whole and everyone of the natural day
or the interval between sunrise and sunset as distinguished from and
contrasted with the night” “alike”
or “in the same or like manner”. Paul referred to people who
“select and choose as special” one particular
“day”
over “another”
“day”.
The
verse continues, “
Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.”
Paul
added the word, “let”
which
means “permit and allow”
“every
man”
or “each, all, the whole and everyone whether male or female” “be
fully persuaded”
which means “be completely fulfilled, accomplished, convinced and
assured” “in
his own mind”
or “within that person whether male or female's selfsame thoughts,
feelings, purposes and desires”.
Paul encouraged his believers in Rome to be “completely convinced”
in their own “thoughts, feelings, purposes and desires”
concerning whether certain “days”
or special or not.
When
we think through these words of Paul, we see how different believers
in Jesus “choose, pick out and select” certain “days”
as special over others. Some believers choose “every
day”
as equal, and do not exalt certain “days”
as more important. Paul desired for the Jesus believers in Rome to be
“convinced” in their own
“minds”
and follow after those thoughts. Let all who read these words
consider that loving other people is of primary importance within the
Kingdom of God, and whether a person chooses to believe one day is
more important than another is of least importance in comparison.
Next
time
Paul tells the believers in Rome, “he
that regards the day, regards it unto the Lord” and
“he
that eats, eats to the Lord”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
