He that Has Ears – Hear - Mark 7:16

Mark wrote how Jesus said to the Pharisees and scribes, “Moses said, Honor your father and your mother; and, Whosoever curses father or mother, let him die the death. But you say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever you might be profited by me; he shall be free. And you suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother. Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which you have delivered: and many such like things do you. And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand: There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man”, and in chapter seven and verse sixteen of his book, Mark wrote how Jesus told the people, “if any man have ears to hear, let him hear” where we read:

If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

The verse reads,If any man have ears to hear, ...Mark began with the words, “if any man have ears” which means “whether any certain person whether male or female have physical or mental ears” “to hear” or “to attend to, consider, understand and perceive”. Mark shared how Jesus made a declaration toward any person who has the “physical and mental” capacity to “hear” His words.

The verse goes on to say, let him hear.” Mark continued with the word, “let” which means “allow and permit” “him hear” or “ that person to attend to, consider, understand and perceive”. Mark shared how Jesus desired people who were capable of “hearing” Him to do so.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus wanted the “multitude” to understand what He meant about replacing the “law of God” with “man-made traditions”. God's cares for people because He loves them, and He demonstrated His love by sending His Son Jesus to “die” for their sins. Those who are wise will “hear” what God has said, and yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus asks the people, “are you so without understanding also?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
