Mark wrote how people saw Jesus work and, “were beyond measure astonished, saying, He has done all things well: he makes both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak”, and in chapter eight and verse one of his book, Mark wrote how “Jesus called his disciples unto him” and began to speak to them again where we read:
In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat,
Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said unto them,
The verse reads, “In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, ...” Mark began with the words, “In those days” which means “in the days in which Jesus was in the area of Decapolis” “the multitude” or “the crowd of people” “being very great” which means “which was a large and massive group of people”, “and having nothing to eat” or “and the people did not have anything to devour or consume”. Mark shared how once again a large group of people who did not have anything to eat were following Jesus as He taught and performed miracles among them.
The verse continues, “Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said unto them,” Mark added the words, “Jesus called his disciples” which means “Jesus, whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate bid, beckoned, summoned and invited His pupils, students and attendants” “unto him” or “to Jesus Himself”, “and said unto them” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed to His disciples”. Mark shared how Jesus “beckoned” His “disciples” to come to Him because He had something further to tell them.
When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how people were gathered unto Jesus again as He ministered the “gospel” of God's Kingdom to them and demonstrated it with His power to do miracles. Jesus observed the people and summoned His “disciples” to come to Him again. Jesus was constantly instructing His disciples as they would soon be taking over the ministry from Him. Jesus did not stay on the earth forever, and He has commissioned people to care for His Kingdom ever since. God wants everyone to be involved, and when they yield their lives to Him through His Son Jesus, they shall find that He has instructions in His Kingdom for them as well. May all who read these words yield to Jesus and listen to Him as a guide for their lives.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus told His disciples He had, “compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
