Mark wrote, “when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed: He answered and said unto them, Give you them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat? He said unto them, How many loaves have you? go and see. And when they knew, they said, Five, and two fishes. And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass. And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties. And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all”, and in chapter six and verse forty-two of his book, Mark wrote how the multitude, “did all eat, and were filled” where we read:
And they did all eat, and were filled.
The verse reads, “And they did all eat, ...” Mark began with the words, “and they did all eat” which means “and each, every, the whole and everyone of the people consumed and devoured the food”. Mark shared how every person within the crowd ate the food Jesus provided.
The verse goes on to say, “... and were filled.” Mark continued with the words, “and were filled” which means “supplied, gorged and satisfied”. Mark shared how the people within the multitude were “gorged” on the “five loaves and two fish” Jesus blessed, broke and distributed by His disciples.
When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus more than supplied the need for food with this crowd of people. They ate not only until they were “satisfied”, but also till they were stuffed with food. This is an example of how God is “able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us” (See Ephesians 3:20), and when Jesus fed the multitude it was another reason for them to know Him as their Messiah and personal “Savior and Lord”. Let all who consider this miracle of Jesus yield their lives to Him.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus' disciples, “took up twelve baskets full of the fragments”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
