Beyond Measure Astonished - Mark 7:37

Mark wrote how Jesus, “departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. And they brought unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseeched him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it, and in chapter seven and verse thirty-seven of his book, Mark wrote how the people, “were beyond measure astonished” where we read:

And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He has done all things well:

he makes both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

The verse reads,And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He has done all things well: Mark began with the words, “and were beyond measure” which means “the people who saw Jesus perform the miracle on the deaf and tongue-tied man were exceeding and abundantly” “astonished” or “struck with amazement”, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “he has done” or “Jesus has performed and produced” “all things well” which means “each, every, the whole and everything beautifully, finely, excellently, nobly, commendably and right”. Mark shared how the people who saw the miracle were “amazed” at Jesus, and they broadcast that He did everything right.

The verse goes on to say, he makes both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak. Mark continued with the words, “he makes” which means “He produces, renders and causes” “both the deaf to hear” or “both those who cannot hear to hear”, “and the dumb to speak” which means “and those who cannot talk to talk”. Mark shared how the people proclaimed specifically what Jesus did – made “the deaf to hear” and “the dumb” to talk.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how the people who saw Jesus heal the man who was “deaf and tongue-tied” were “amazed” by all He did. They named the miracles they saw as they shared how Jesus gave hearing to the “deaf” and speech to the “dumb”. God demonstrated His power though His Son Jesus, and when He healed people of their physical maladies, it was a sign that He is able to “heal” their spiritual “errors” as well. “All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23), and everyone is in need of Jesus' “healing” touch. He died on the cross to save people from those “sins”, and He rose the third day afterward to demonstrate His power over death. Those who receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” shall live with Him forever in “spiritual bodies” that have been “healed” from every wrong they have ever done. Praise be to God the Father for sending us His Son Jesus!

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Mark share how, “Jesus called his disciples unto himand began to speak to them again, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
