Mark wrote how, “a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of” Jesus “and came and fell at his feet: The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter. But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs. And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs. And he said unto her, For this saying go your way; the devil is gone out of your daughter”, and in chapter seven and verse thirty of his book, Mark wrote how the woman, “found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed” just the way Jesus said where we read:
And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out,
and her daughter laid upon the bed.
The verse reads, “And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, ...” Mark began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “she was come” or “the woman with the demon possessed daughter entered” “to her house” which means “into her dwelling place, abode and habitation”, “she found” or “the woman discovered and perceived” “the devil gone out” which means “the demon or unclean spirit had left and departed”. Mark shared how the woman went to her home, and when she entered, she discovered the “unclean spirit” had left her daughter.
The verse continues, “... and her daughter laid upon the bed.” Mark added the words, “and her daughter” which means “and the woman's young virgin daughter” “laid upon” or “was lying upon and poured into” “the bed” which means “the small couch or bed in which one sleeps or eats”. Mark shared how the woman's “daughter” was lying down upon a small bed within her home.
When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' words concerning this “daughter's demon” being gone were fulfilled. God is faithful to His word, and when He declares something, it will come to pass. Jesus said, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16), and as sure as Jesus said this, it shall be. Let all who read these words carefully consider this woman, hear the words of Jesus and believe Him.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus, “came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
